Making of America seminar

I neglected to immediately post an amazing seminar last Saturday called, "The Making of America." It is a lecture on The 5,000 Year Leap book by Skousen. His legacy is the National Center for Constitutional Studies (see link). The insights into the founding of America are worth knowing and passing on to everyone you know. The principles of freedom discussed in the book are essential to understanding the constitution and what systems of government our founders studied. Truly a miracle! Some nuggets of knowledge:
1) Life + Liberty = Property
The fruits of your labor (property) are a result of your talents and efforts and time, thus any loss of property (taxation, confiscation, robbery, neglect) is a loss of part of your life.
2) Government exists to protect your property. If we all lived in anarchy, no property would be safe or accumulated, since it would be taken easily. Men are not angels, and need government to provide protection.
3) Natural Law is still hard for me to define! It is not relating to mother nature, as the word nature is used today. Natural law to our founders meant that the Creator made us and this world. Natural rights have been given to us by the Creator (inalienable) and cannot be taken away or violated without coming under the judgment and wrath of the Creator (life, liberty, and pursuit of property and peace-happiness). Vested rights are created by man and can be changed at any time (driver's license). Now you can easily understand why "government health care" is not a natural right under the constitution.
4) Communism was tried and rejected as utter failures very early in our history with Jamestown and Plymouth. Can't we learn?
5) 17th amendment took power away from states in congress. Loss of check and balance.

I could go on and on, but you'll just have to check out the link for NCCS.
